Pop Idol Dance Showcase

This event highlights the variety of pop music within Asian culture. It also provides a platform for participants to express their interest in music through dance covers. As such, this is not a competitive environment, and we welcome anyone who wants to participate based on a first-come, first-serve basis. With that being said however, this is not the stage for already established dance cover groups to perform on — rather it is for individuals who want to meet others with similar musical interests.

Official Showtime

Sunday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Plaza Ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel.

If you wish to participate, further information can be found on the Pop Idol Dance Showcase board (listed under Other Events) in the Official Anime North Forums. AN's BYOC LAN Party is back yet again for it's 4th annual iteration! With even more room now, join us over the weekend for various events such as:

  • Free Play Friday, where we play a whole multitude of different games
  • Summoner Saturday, a whole day dedicated to just LoL with round robin games opening off during the day and finishing off later with the night's sure-to-be exciting semis and finals
  • StarCraft Sunday, where we'll have a number of players, enough to rival even the Zerg, competiting to see who's the best, and even possibly getting a chance to play against a real pro!

We'll even have the later stage matches up on the big screen and streaming online with casters! So come on out and have some fun with us — whether you're there trying to put together the ultimate Summoner team, survive the Heart of the Swarm, or just to watch!

FAQ

Q: When does pre-registration begin?

A: Pre-registration for tournaments is already open and will be available until Monday May 13th, 2013. After that date, if you still wish to participate, you will have to register at the event as a walk-in on the Friday. Please keep in mind that spots are first come, first serve, so no guarantees.

Q: What does BYOC mean?

A: BYOC means Bring Your Own Computer. Unfortunately we do not have computers setup for public use, thus people must bring their own if they wish to participate.

Q: Is there a fee to enter any of the tournaments?

A: All tournaments are free and open to anyone with an Anime North pass — only bragging rights are at stake.

Q: Why SC2 & LoL, no FPS?

A: The choices were made purely on audience demand. SC2 and LoL have had strong turnouts, and while we would love to hold a tournament for an FPS game, it is not possible due to limited interest and resources.

Q: What are the prizes?

A:Prizes will be announced for the specific tournaments on their respective forum pages (see StarCraft II and League of Legends). For each tournament, all collected tournament fees will go towards the prize pool for the top 4 participants.

Q: What is tournament priority?

A: During tournament times, players that are playing in the tournament have seating/space priority over players who are not. This is simply to ensure that we have enough space for participating players to compete should we reach room capacity.

Q: When and what is free play?

A: Free play is open play where simply anyone can play anything (as long as it is legal and within rules and regulations). While people are encouraged to try playing with others over the network to take advantage of LAN capabilities, some may have other preferential games that can only be played online (or with other people). Free play starts at the beginning of Friday night and ends at closing on Sunday. However, during tournament hours, free play will be monitored closely and participants may be asked to switch games should their games interfere with the network for the tournament players. Generally, this is only the case for the beginning 2-3 hours, as round robin will have everyone playing at once and thus the most network congestion.

Q: Why are there time limits for matches?

A: Time limits for matches are for scheduling purposes and to streamline games. Most matches do not come close to the time allocation, and those that do usually end up being very good matches. They do not exist as a "hard-timer so you better win by XX minutes or else", but rather as an effort to help players optimize their time in-game to achieve success. Only in the rarest of circumstances will a match be called due to time limit.

Q: For LoL, will the prize for the winning team change based on the number of members?

A: Unfortunately, no. The prizes we secure will be awarded to the winning team and it is up to them to distribute as they see fit.

Q: I have a teammate that can't make it, can he play from another location in LoL?

A: While we would love to let people play with teammates in other locations, in order to minimize outside interference, participants must be physically on-location and playing from the LAN room for all official tournaments being held.
