Art Show

  • All entries must be your own composition on an anime theme in any medium including photography.
  • 3-D pieces assembled from commercial kits or patterns may not be displayed.
  • All artwork must be in good condition & properly mounted in protective materials (i.e. matting, mounting board or plastic sleeves).
  • We provide hooks and bulldog clips for hanging art on the pegboard panels.
  • The title and the artist's name and address must be printed on the back of each piece, or securely attached to 3-D work.
  • All artwork must have a unique title for positive identification; "Untitled #1" is not acceptable.
  • One copy of a signed, limited edition print may be hung with original art and sold in the usual method (written/voice bids), provided no other copies of that print are offered anywhere else at the convention.

Print Shop

  • Artists displaying at the Anime North 2008 Art Show may also sell multiple copies of a print through the Print Shop at a fixed sale price.
  • A straight 10% commission is charged on Print Shop sales.
  • Indicate on the reservation form how many different prints (not the total quantity) you plan to sell through the Print Shop. You will be sent special Print Shop control sheets.
  • Unmatted and matted copies of the same image are, for Print Shop purposes, counted as two titles.
  • Please provide envelopes to protect unmatted prints.
  • Whenever possible, please send a matted display copy for each print.
  • Artists must provide all prints that are desired to be sold through the Print Shop. Artists must also verify that all prints are accounted for prior to the completion of their check-in. The Art Show will not be held responsible for discrepancies.

GENERAL RULES:

  1. Once entered by the artist or agent, artwork may not be withdrawn from the Art Show for private sale, nor may the minimum bid be changed.
  2. The Art Show will be located in the Toronto Congress Centre. You may begin to hang your art at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, and continue until 10:00 p.m. The show will open for viewing at 6:00 p.m. Bidding also begins at that time.
  3. Please notify the Art Show if you will be arriving after 10:00 p.m. on Friday. If notice is not given, reserved space may be resold.  Refunds will be given only for space we are able to resell.
  4. If you are sending your art with a friend, please provide a letter authorizing him or her to act as your agent and please specify to whom payment should be made.  Artwork without written authorization will not be allowed in the Art Show.
  5. All artwork must be in good condition & properly mounted in protective materials (i.e. matting, mounting board or plastic sleeves). It is the artist's responsibility to take every reasonable step to ensure their artwork will not be damaged by setup or teardown of the displays. The Art Show will no longer provide protective materials such as plastic sleeves. If artwork has been put on display without proper protection, Art Room staff will remove it and the panel fee will not be refunded.
  6. Anime North is a family-oriented convention.  For this reason, artwork with explicitly sexual or otherwise offensive content will not be displayed openly in the Art Room.  If you have hentai (sexually explicit) art you would like to sell through the Art Show or Print Shop, please contact the Art Directors at art@animenorth.com and put Hentai in the subject line.
  7. Artist checkout is Sunday, May 25, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. We will pay artists on-site until the cash runs out, and then payment will be made by cheque approximately two weeks thereafter. We will not be responsible for art not picked up by the artist or agent by 3:00 p.m. Sunday unless prior arrangements have been made (i.e. mail-in art).
  8. Art Room spaces are occupied at the discretion of the Art Department Director.  Anime North reserves the right to refuse sale of Art Room panel or table space.

ART SALES & AUCTION

Click here for the Art Auction rules.

Art will be auctioned on Sunday morning.  Art with 3 written bids or more will go to auction.  Art with one written bid is sold to that bidder; art with 2 bids goes to the second bidder.  Art with no bids may be sold at minimum bid on Sunday, unless the artist checks "No Sunday Sale" on the bid sheet.  Quick Sale prices are not used in this art show.

Please be realistic with your minimum bids.  All bids are in Canadian dollars. Do not put less than you will accept for the item, expecting it to be bid up.  Remember, a single bid means the art sells for that price.

If you have registered as a bidder in the Art Auction but are unable to pick up your purchase on Sunday (i.e., you have registered to attend on Saturday only), then arrangements may be made at the discretion of the Art Directors for you to purchase the artwork immediately after the close of the Art Room on Saturday night. Otherwise, you may appoint a proxy to pick up and pay for your purchased artwork on Sunday by giving them a note of authorization and your bidder paddle.

If a piece of art that you bid on goes to the live auction on Sunday morning but you cannot attend (again, in the
case that you are attending the convention on Saturday only), then you may appoint a proxy to bid on your behalf by giving them a note of authorization and your bidder paddle.

In either of these cases, please notify the Art Show Directors at your earliest convenience.

Refunds will be given only for space we are able to resell.

Artists who need to pick up their work before 1 p.m. on Sunday are asked to inform the Art Room staff when they check in.

ARTISTS' ALLEY

***Please note that the Artists' Alley is no longer a part of the Art Show.  Those interested in this department should contact alley@animenorth.com or to stay tuned to the Anime North website for further details.  Please be aware, however, that multiple copies of the same art may not be sold in both places.

SHIPPING YOUR ART

If you cannot personally attend or have someone bring your art to the convention, you may arrange to ship your art to the show.  We prefer shipment via Post Office or FedEx.  Please include a cheque for the return-shipping fee (equivalent to the cost of shipping your art to the show).  Any unused portion of this shipping advance will be refunded. Please use a returnable package.  Include a return shipping label, suggested layout and the return shipping fee (made payable to "Anime North") together with your completed control and bid sheets in a separate envelope inside your package.

US Artists: as the Anime North Art show is a relatively new group, we cannot as yet apply for an E29B permit to simplify the process of bringing your art into Canada.  Customs paperwork will be your own responsibility.  Please check with your carrier regarding handling and costs of customs &/or brokers fees.  We recommend the Postal Service or FedEx.  However, if you have questions or concerns you may contact David Federman or Joe Markovic at art@animenorth.com.

Remember to allow ample time for shipping - so that your art arrives no later than Thursday.
